U.S. and Pakistan: A Frayed Alliance

We all know that the war in Iraq has taken a toll on us all. Some forget to mention what underlies the war and where most of our concentration should be. Pakistan is supposed to be our partner and ally on this war against terrorism when in reality many Pakistanis prefer terrorist compared to our nation. The reason comes down to one realization, trust. The United States put a huge amount of money into Pakistan and little work and progress has been made. The first illustration of trust demonstrated from the article is the military goggles that we lone Pakistan. We provide this equipment in order for them to be more effective in combat however we take them back every two weeks to make sure that they’re all accounted for. However, seemingly know one understands that although it’s a precaution on our side to the Pakistianis it seems like a lack of trust. I understand why we wouldn’t completely trust our allies however we chose them to be our allies and they should be treated with respect. Their mannerisms are questionable and it’s unbelievable that we put over 6 billion dollars into their country with no return on our investment however we have to question ourselves whether we are getting to the root of the problem. The United States is quick to train the Paskistani's for war, combat and weaponry, but what about the main problems helping Pakistan’s war on poverty, schools and healthcare attacking the root of Pakistan’s terrorism and militancy. What angers me is the stance that the United States took on the issue I feel as though our own country is hypocritical. We form allies and yet don’t do what it takes to get the issue resolved. We make promises without following through and then we have the nerve to wonder why people hate us so much. I’m not saying that it’s all our fault but we have to take care of our own inadequacies before we can take care of others. It is time for better public education on the issue and more social involvement ultimately, we are not making these decisions however we are the tax payers to a monster that if not controlled can and will claim many lives and then their will be no one else blame but ourselves.

Bush urges temporary bill to keep government running

Found: Washington Post Newspaper

People need to read this article just as a fun interlude to President Bush, I found it hilarious. As if President Bush doesn’t already have enough money to spend. In this article Bush is pushing a temporary bill to get funding for what he says is to, “Keep the government running and to continue important services.” When the government already deems the president billions of dollars for a spending limit; for example, he vetoed a bill deeming his spending limit to be $933 billion for the year of 2008 which seems a bit greedy. If the president wasn’t spending so much money on the war in Iraq there may have been more money for these other programs. Who is to say that once the money is given that it will just go to fighting the war in Iraq and the President forget about the other issues. The President needs to be more detailed about where the money is going if he expects Congress and the people to keep shoveling it out.
